Learn how to set up your QL-820NWB Printer to print Sine check-in badges.

Load your label rolls

  1. With your printer powered off. Remove all plastic protective packaging from the printer. Hold the printer by the front, and firmly lift the DK Roll Compartment Cover to open it. Pull out the protective sheet in the Label Outlet Slot and the tab from the reverse side.

  2. After removing the protective material, install the DK Roll.
    Ensure that the Roll Spool Arms are inserted firmly in the Roll Spool Guides.
    Check sure the stabiliser 1 slide into the notch of the printer.

    Cut or unpeel DK Roll seal and ready the end of the DK Roll for feeding.

  3. Thread the DK Roll through the printer.

    Align the edge of the DK Roll with the upright edge of the Label Output Slot.

    Insert the first label into the slot inside the compartment.

    Push the labels through the Label Output Slot until the end reaches the mark, as shown.

  4. Close the DK Roll Compartment Cover.

    When you press the Power Button to turn the printer on, the end of the DK Roll aligns automatically.

  5. Plug the printer power adapter into the rear of the printer, then connect it to an available power outlet.

  6. Turn on the printer by pressing the Power Button.

Configure Printer Basic Settings

To begin it's best to first clear all old settings. To do this press: Menu > Administration > Reset > Factory Reset > Reset.

If your printer is brand new you can jump into configuring the basic printer settings:

Use the ▲/▼ arrows and the [OK] buttons to navigate between menus and menu options.

  1. Set your language, time and date

  2. Turn on Bluetooth by pressing:
    [Menu] button and select: Bluetooth > Bluetooth ON/OFF > ON

  3. Turn on auto reconnection by pressing:

    [Menu] button and select: Bluetooth > Automatic Reconnection > ON

  4. Turn off template mode by pressing:

    [Menu] button and select: > Template Settings > Template Mode > OFF

  5. Disable Auto-Power Off by pressing:

    [Menu] button and select: >
    Settings > Auto Power Off > Adapter > Off

Next, choose a connection type to begin - Bluetooth is the easiest method.

AirPrint

We recommend against connecting printers via AirPrint as this will reduce the quality of your badge print and take longer to send to the printer. In some cases, AirPrint may not work or give inaccurate results.


Connect via Bluetooth (recommended)

Requires Sine Point Pro version 1.19.0 (2020) or newer.

  1. On the iPad, open Settings and select: Bluetooth

  2. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled
    If you see an Allow New Connections button, tap on this to enable new connections

  3. Browse the list of discovered devices, please note that multiple printers may show up in this list.

  4. Choose your printer. (e.g. If your printer's serial number ends in 3456, your device name is QL-820NWB3456 - find the serial number underneath the label roll. (eg. A12345E1Z123456)

  5. The printer will be automatically added as the default printer in the Sine Point Pro App when you first open the app.

If you need to check printer settings at any point, you can press on the Gear/Cog icon on the check-in screen of the Sine Point Pro app, enter your Display Settings Code (this can be retrieved from Displays Tab in the Sine Dashboard). Then press on the printing settings tab.

From there you can select a printer and remove it if you wish.

Press Done in the top right corner to return to the check-in screen.

Remember to enable Sine Kiosk Mode if you want the Sine Point Pro app to stay open all the time.


Connect via WiFi Network

After configuring the basic printer settings start back at the Printer's Time/Date home screen.

Use the ▲/▼ arrows and the [OK] buttons to navigate between menus and menu options.

  1. Press [Menu] button and select: WLAN.

  2. Select the WLAN (On/Off) setting.

  3. Select On option.

  4. While still in the WLAN menu and select Network Mode.

  5. Select Infrastructure Mode.

  6. While still in the WLAN menu and select Infra Manual Setting.

  7. The printer will search for nearby wireless networks.

  8. Select your desired network out of the list and enter your network password by using the ▲/▼ arrows and the [OK] button.

  9. Your printer will now be connected to the chosen WiFi network.

    Now you need to connect your printer to the Sine Point Pro app to enable badge printing.

    1. Press the Gear/Cog button in the bottom-right corner of the iPad and enter your Display Settings Code (this can be retrieved from Displays Tab in the Sine Dashboard).

    2. Select Printing from the side-bar

    3. The Brother Printer is connected to the same wireless network as the iPad, it will show in the Nearby Printers list.

    4. Touch your desired printer to connect to it.

    5. If you are unable to add via the nearby printers list use the "Add via IP" method.

      1. Select your printer model from the drop-down list

      2. Acquire your printer IP address:

        1. For Brother QL-820NWB: Use the ▲/▼ arrows and the [OK] buttons to navigate between menus and menu options.
          Menu > WLAN > WLAN Status. The printer's IP address will be displayed.

        2. For Brother QL-810W & QL-720NWB: Hold down the cut button until the configuration tickets begin to print. Review the 3rd-6th labels for the IP Address field.

      3. Enter the printer IP Address and select Add.

    6. Print a test label to check the setup has worked.

    Press Done in the top right corner to return to the check-in screen.

Remember to enable Sine Kiosk Mode if you want the Sine Point Pro app to stay open all the time.


Connect via Hotspot WiFi Network

After configuring the basic printer settings start back at the Printer's Time/Date home screen.

Use the ▲/▼ arrows and the [OK] buttons to navigate between menus and menu options.

  1. On your iPad navigate to: Settings > General > About > Name

  2. Review your iPad's name and change it if you like, it needs to be something unique.

    The iPad name will become your Hotspot WiFi Network name

  3. On your iPad navigate to: Settings > Personal Hotspot

    Note down Hotspot WiFi password, you will need it to connect your printer to the iPad.

    Ensure the personal hotspot option is enabled on this screen.

  4. Move over to your printer.

  5. Press [Menu] button and select: WLAN.

  6. Select the WLAN (On/Off) setting.

  7. Select On option.

  8. While still in the WLAN menu and select Network Mode.

  9. Select Infrastructure Mode.

  10. While still in the WLAN menu and select Infra Manual Setting.

  11. The printer will search for nearby wireless networks.

  12. Select your hotspot WiFi network as identified in step 2, out of the list.

    Then enter your hotspot WiFi password as identified in step 3, by using the ▲/▼ arrows and the [OK] button.

  13. Your printer will now be connected to the Hotspot WiFi network.

    Now you need to connect your printer to the Sine Point Pro app to enable badge printing.

    1. Press the Gear/Cog button in the bottom-right corner of the iPad and enter your Display Settings Code (this can be retrieved from Displays Tab in the Sine Dashboard).

    2. Select Printing from the side-bar

    3. The Brother Printer is connected to the same wireless network as the iPad, it will show in the Nearby Printers list.

    4. Touch your desired printer to connect to it.

    5. If you are unable to add via the nearby printers list use the "Add via IP" method.

      1. Select your printer model from the drop-down list

        1. For Brother QL-820NWB: Use the ▲/▼ arrows and the [OK] buttons to navigate between menus and menu options.
          Menu > WLAN > WLAN Status. The printer's IP address will be displayed.

        2. For Brother QL-810W & QL-720NWB: Hold down the cut button until the configuration tickets begin to print. Review the 3rd-6th labels for the IP Address field.

      3. Enter the printer IP Address and select Add.

    6. Print a test label to check the setup has worked.
